London Small Arms (LSA), No1 MkI, manufactured in 1904.

This rifles particulars:

1) All numbers match (the rear sight has no serial number).
2) No subsequent modifications or LoC upgrades.
3) Barrel was replaced in 1908 by LSA armourer. LSA stampings and serial number on barrel. (Bore good)
4) Not designated for HV ammo.

The secondary serial number suggests this rifle made its way from the UK to Australia during it’s time in government service. The regimental Butt Disc ~ may indicate ~ it at one time was inventoried to the 15th Light Horse or it may have been added at a later date. Interesting additional history ~may indicate ~ that it was also passed along to the Queensland Police as there is a curious marking on the fore-end, near the rear sight, which appears to be a QP. Certainly this piece was not part of the contracted purchase of rifles by the Queensland Police as it lacks the Q/|\P and serial number stamping on the knox form. However, it being in the QP’s inventory may account for it not having any LoC changes made to it. As with most Enfield rifles, definitive individual history is elusive at best, this one being no exception.

In this image you can see the bolthead charger guide, magazine cut-off and the original style magazine (chain loop, rounded nose, designed for use with MkVI round nose ammunition).

This picture illustrates the bolhead charger guide quite well.

This image illustrates nicely the original type rear sight. Windage adjustable, bone studded plunger caps on the range slide, no worm screw for small elevation adjustment and the protector ears are pinned to the rear handguard.

An odd marking that I will speculate indicates Queensland Police issue, control or inventory. (?)
