C No 7
C No7 Rifle

Like the No2 MkIV*, the No7
was built to replicate it's .303 twin. Maintaining the operating functions and
basic weight of the .303 version, but permitting indoor, reduced distance
training that only the .22 rimfire cartridge could provide.
Images of the featured rifle were provided courtesy of Phil Krause. They
provide a good example of the C (Canadian) No7 .22 caliber training rifle. The
No7 was fitted with a .22 caliber barrel, as opposed to a sleeved insert. The bolt
and bolthead were modified to extract and fire the .22 cartridge, and the
magazine follower was modified to allowed a .22 cartridge to be slid into the
chamber for loading. The C No7 was also fitted with a rear aperture sight that
was specifically designed for the rifle. Unlike the No2, which utilized the
standard .303 sight and corrections were noted for .22 firing. The No7's rear
sight, similar to the .303 micrometer sight, offered elevation adjustments in
graduated clicks from 20 to 100 yards, but unlike it's big brother the No7 also
offered windage adjustments in graduated clicks.

Easily seen from this picture, the unique rear
aperture sight and the chamber.
