The Swift Training Rifle was a unique design that incorporated a spring loaded butt plate that had to be firmly held into the shoulder before the rifle would "fire". Firing actually only consisted of launching a pin which would mark a paper target. The rifle was designed as an aid in teaching holding, aiming and firing without the requirement of an actual rifle range. This enabled training staff to conduct instruction right in the classroom, before moving to a range for actual live firing.
